Over You

This is the cover for my second novel, Over You. What do you think? I am dead chuffed with it - I love it. And just look at all that shopping!!! I want to be that woman in the red dress, just for a day, pleeeease...
Anyway, here's a little blurb to whet your appetites...
The story is about three women Josie, Nell and Lisa who were best mates back when they were twenty-somethings. Now they're all in their thirties and have gone their separate ways - Josie's a mum and housewife in deepest suburbia, free-spirited Nell has travelled the world, and Lisa has gone for career gold (and the salary premiership). Josie organises a weekend reunion, and the three of them revisit their old haunts in London. All goes well at first, but then skeletons start tumbling out of closets and secrets are uncovered, which change Josie's life for ever...
It's not coming out for aaages - August next year (boo). But every time I look at this cover (quite often actually) I get a little firework of excitement going off inside me!

It does indeed look lovely. And it's just as well it's not due until August next year, because "Any Way You Want Me" is still in my reading queue. But I have read and enjoyed "Tigers Love to Say Goodnight" (a lovely book with rather fewer words...)

Oh wow, that's absolutely gorgeous; so classy. I so want to be her too. She has such looooong legs and can shop in those oh so sexy heels. (I couldn't even make it to the taxi in those shoes!)I can't wait.

Ooh yes, it's lovely!

Are ra-ra skirts back in fashion then? How come she looks so classy? I always looked ridiculous in mine.

And it's reminded me that somehow I still haven't read AWYWM - will have to rectify that soon.

Hello Rivergirlie! I am truly chuffed and delighted, yes. Hoorah for the design people!

Hi Pierre, so glad you like Tigers - I'm dead proud of that book despite the small word count as you say. Hope you enjoy Any Way You Want Me too - but in a different way (clue: don't read it to your kids as a bedtime story, I don't want them mentally scarred for life!)

JJ - I know, those legs are amazing, aren't they? And those heels! Nope, I can't do heels either, I've had far too many ankle twists trying. Must try harder...

Hi Clare - did ra-ra skirts ever go OUT of fashion?? Joke. They are hideous, yet somehow or other that glam woman on my cover gets away with hers.
I never had a ra-ra skirt sadly - my mum said I could have a ra-ra skirt or some pedal-pushers, but not both. I chose the pedal-pushers. Black, velvet pedal-pushers. Oh dear. I'm quite sure I looked as ridiculous as you in your ra-ra skirt!

That is a seriously nice cover! Glam but slightly mysterious.
And that looks like an expensive dress - not a Bananarama type ra-ra:-)

You must be thrilled!

It will be all write said...

Great cover ! If I was to see that on a top shelf in Waterstones, shopping someone in the Provence would come to mind. Very French glamour indeed.

A long wait for the book though. Do you know when it will be available to pre order ?

Can't wait to read it!

I really like this. Very pick-up-and-grabable.

Never wishing to be last with anything, I pre-ordered mine yesterday - delivery estimate 1-2 August 2008 (sales rank: 78111). You can pre-order from the bit of the sidebar labelled "buy the book".
Incidentally, as my children are 28 and 30, I am unlikely to read bedtime stories to them, but I shall make sure I don't get mentally scared myself.

I think that's a terrific cover. I bet it'll attract lots of readers. It would certainly attract me. I'm not surprised you're pleased, I think you just won the cover lottery!

Hi Lane - fantastic clarification on the ra-ra there, thank you! Definitely not a Bananarama ra-ra. (One of the first singles I ever bought was Mickey by Toni Basil - she had a very bad ra-ra as I recall.)

It Will Be All Write - oh yes, I do like imagining it in Waterstones. Ahhhhh (goes off into daydream)

Hi Caroline and Helen - that's just what I said when I saw it, that I would pick it up in a bookshop - am so glad you feel the same way. Thanks!

Pierre!!!! You have pre-ordered it! You are a superstar, thank you. Over You has a sales rank!! So exciting. You just made my day.

Thanks, Zinnia - that is just how I feel! Winning the cover lottery is a great phrase - I will pass that on to the lovely art director at Pan. ;)

Hi Sally! Woo-hoo indeed. Glad you like it!

Hello again new-girl-anonymous! Awww - I just loved reading that you were missing Sadie. Thanks for saying that - it's a real compliment. (And I so agree with you on the shoes...)

I had pedal pushers too. But they weren't black velvet. I'm now jealous. God I loved my pedal pushers. I can still remember the self-huggy feeling they gave me. I thought they looked great. They were definitely a better concept than the ra-ra. I bet yours looked great, they certainly sound it.

Ooooh, I LOVE that cover! It looks so glossy and sassy and I want to read it now!

Can't wait till it comes out Lucy ~ the premise sounds great, and I loved the last one.

Best wishes
Kate K

Oh Clare!! Please don't be jealous of my black velvet pedalpushers. I used to wear a ruffley white shirt with them and probably looked a complete knobber. Ahhh...the New Romantic look. It made prats of us all...

Hi Kate - glad you like it. Glossy and sassy is the way to go!

Angie said...

Congratulations, that is fantastic. Is it bad I'm jealous of her legs and heels (can't wear them either) and shopping bags? The synopsis intrigues me as well.

Fiona said...

God. It's like being pregnant isn't it. The wishing and the waiting...

I can't wait to read it but I'll have to.
It would be great if there was some sort of wishlist, like on amazon, where you could get an email when a book you'd love to buy, is released. Anyone know if there is such a thing?

Lucy Diamond said...

Thanks Angie - and I am completely with you on the jealousy thing. Mind you, I'm not bothering to be jealous of the legs - I know mine will never be like that. It's the shopping I'm hankering over!

Hi Fiona - yes, it is a bit like a book-pregnancy. Hmmmm - does that mean I should be eating for two, do you reckon?!
